General

• Our Matee Arcade was born at a weekend-long hackathon in March 2023
• Since then, it’s been a full-fledged member of Matee and endured countless battles in Bomberman, Galaga, and other “old but gold” games 💣🚀
• It is based on RetroPie, which combines multiple projects, including RetroArch, EmulationStation, and many others
• RetroPie contains emulators of almost every console/platform from ~1980 to ~2000; among the most popular are NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, and PlayStation. Matee Arcade is based on Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, so you can encounter some performance issues.

Adding games

• You can find ROMs all over the internet

• The most popular sites are WoWROMs, Emuparadise, and EmulatorGames

• You can transfer ROMs either by USB stick or via SCP (preferred)

  SCP (local network)

  • Find the current IP (Show IP in the RetroPie menu)
  • Enable SSH from the RetroPie menu - the default password is raspberry
  • Copy ROM via SCP to the specific emulator directory:

  scp <DOWNLOADED_ROM> [pi@](<mailto:[email protected]>)<IP>:/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/<EMULATOR>
  

  • Please disable SSH after you are done

Saving

• Some games automatically save your progress if you exit the game correctly. If your game has a built-in save feature, it is automatically saved when you use Select+Start to exit.
• Most games must be saved manually, and this can be done from a game menu: Select+X

Controller configuration

• All inputs (joysticks and buttons) are connected through two Joy-it SBC-ZDE controllers
• RetroPie then detects them as USB gamepads, which must be configured on the first boot
• Gamepads can be later reconfigured by Select
• You can switch the order of Player1 / Player2 from the RetroPie configuration editor → 1) Configure basic libretro emulator options → Pick your system or pick default for all → 7) Choose joypad order
• NOTE: It is important to properly connect the joysticks (Up / Down / Right / Left). Otherwise, the diagonal axis won’t work as expected. See the image below.
